First off, my first choice is the .50 cal rifle, the sheer power of that weapon not only from the explosion of the car but, remember the explosion from that control tower in the junkyard.  YEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

Secondly, and I know you didn't put it up but, I also picked Wolverine's claws for when you want to get up close and personal on a motherfncker.  As a matter of fact, you can put Freddy Kruger's bladed glove up there.

And lastly, the guitar cases.  Tell me if they were real, you would look at anyone with a guitar, cello, or bass violin a little more carefully.

Not on the list.  Dunno if it is my actual favorite, but one of the ones I like best is Stephen Chow's Chinese butcher knife in From Beijing With Love.  It's obviously not an ordinary one.  It isn't used that many times in the film (only twice as an offensive weapon, both briefly), but it made an impression on me.  It's also butt ugly (which is good in this case), but the great usage it gets and its supreme power (he drops it into marble at one point, and under its own weight point down it sinks like 5 inches - makes you wonder what the scabbard thing he uses is lined with!) and the great sound effect they give it are awesome.

Oh yeah, and the main character is also a butcher along with his secret agent career, and he also uses it for butchering.  If that isn't awesome, I don't know what is.

The whole movie is on youtube, but I couldn't find an individual clip.  Go to about the 8 minute point in the video.

If non-firearms are OK, my vote is for The Ladder.

Some nice ones there, but here are some I like even more.

Non-bladed weapons
Richard Widmark's Peckwood Volley Gun in "The Alamo."

Bob Cumming's tie tac derringer in "The Barefoot Mailman."

And that wind-up pistol used as an anti-aircraft gun in "The Fabulous World of Jules Verne."

And any gatling gun. "Get out of the way boys. I'm going to crank this baby up and let it spit."

Bladed Weapons
The Feral Kid's (Emil Minty's) razor-edged boomerang in "The Road Warrior."

The Boot Knife
You got to trust any man or woman smart enough to carrry a knife in their boot.

Dungeons and Dragons
Hercules: the Legendary Journeys
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's the Lost World
Van Helsing
The Wild Thornberry's Movie

And the Swordcane
For that dapper man-around-town. It never goes out of style.

Arabesque
Beat the Devil
Cat People
Gilda

Great minds think alike. Here's another list (not only films, though)

I think what we've learned from this poll is that there's such a diversity of really cool movie weapons that it's virtually impossible to have a consensus on the coolest.

Now what we need is the same poll, but with movie weapons of mass destruction. Be interesting to see what comes up there.

On that other poll, Ming's remote-catastrophe control would be a great one. Remember the beginning of "Flash Gordon"?

Along the lines of the post above ... would have voted for Scaramanga's Golden Gun had I noticed it earlier.
