Being from the extreme north east, Boston (extreme in the sociological rather than geographical sense) I couldn't help but laugh at this heartland weirdness at first.  A guy who did wheelies on his bike,  something people do when they are just wasting time or drinking,  and people are talking about him like he's the greatest athlete ever "he took the wheelie to higher level and thousands followed in his path".  It felt almost like "talladega nights" or something that should just be chopped up and put on youtube.  But I kind of got into it after a while.  He wheelies for like 3 hours or something once,  gets 12 people on a 3 wheeler and does a wheelie,  invents this cage thing so he can do somersaults,  and his greatest showstopper, the 30 foot high wire wheelie!!   only 51 minutes long check it out.

dude wrote books about wheelies,  was a stuntman in Hollywood and seemed to be a pretty cool guy in general.  One interesting fact:  the man could not ride a bicycle much less do a wheelie on one.  No i'm kidding, I'm sure he could.

here he is wheelying up Lombard street in San Francisco on "that's Incredible" !  it is incredible!!

Back in the 70's I was king of the wheelie in my neighborhood. Back then we use to ride bikes with the curled handle bars and banana seats. The guy with the bike below has his seat up a little to high for good wheelies, but you get the idea. Could go a whole block on one wheel with those bikes. Kids today can do so much more with bikes and skateboards than we ever thought of.

But for now I leave you with one of my very exciting and fantastic clip called THE BIKE RIDE.   TeddyR
