THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL (1952) - Great film about the studio system starring Kirk Douglas and Lana Turner. The film shows the rise of a Studio executives son played by Kirk Douglas. He wants to make movies and kinda uses three people to do it. Great story, acting, and camera work make this 2 1/2 hour film a real pleasure. Guess the film gives you a real look at the behind the scenes of filmmaking in this story. TCM showed this one last night.

(9 Out Of 10 Stars)  Thumbup Thumbup Lana Turner gets top billing and Gilbert Roland even has a good role.

Word has it, that this film was loosely based on the life of film producer Val Lewton.

There is a sequence where KIRK DOUGLAS, as novice film producer Jonathan Shields early in his career, makes a horror film in the style of VAL LEWTON where more is suggested than shown (like in CAT PEOPLE).

Yep, that is a part of the film that should get everyone here interested in this fine film. Kirk Douglas as Shield's along with his writer and director don't like the animal suits, so they decide not to show the creature and end up making a hit film.

Definitely an actor's movie, worthwhile to see for the performances of Lana Turner and Kirk Douglas.
