Every area has a local favorite and this morning in the mist of working I was drinking a Sun Drop and a area new comer was like what's that? I said this my friend is the nectar of the God's, this is liquid gold, this is the very stuff that dreams are made of.
Ok maybe it's not that great, but it is the local flavor and if you drive 50 miles north, east or west of here it becomes difficult to find. However south into Tennessee you get closer to the heart of Sun Drop.

When I lived in Hopkinsville it was "Kickapoo Joy Juice" or "Squirt" in Lexington it was "Ale8One"  While growing up it was "Double Cola" and in the military it was "Cheerwine"

I know many area have local favorites and/or local brands. So what's yours?

DR PEPPER is the only beverage in the world for me  . . .   but if you go down to Dublin, TX you can get the original formulation, sweetened with pure cane sugar instead of corn syrup . . . . truly the Ambrosia of the Gods.

I've had those pure sugar cane ones when I did work in TX, they are indeed good. I'm a big DP fan of the major brands of coke (everything is coke here) that and RC Cola. Both of which I have in the fridge right now.

I drink Coca-Cola by the gallons. I cannot live without it. Watching me drink it is like watching an addict get a fix after too long a wait. I have built up such a resistance to caffeine that I can easily drink an entire six pack (or more) at ten at night and be asleep by eleven. Mountain Dew runs a close second at times, but while I don't always have it in the house, my frig has never been without coke in it since 1985.  TeddyR

As for regional brands...I dunno. I never sample much other than coke and the dew.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Okay, I am against soda drinking, particularly colas, because they are poison... however, I keep Pepsi, diet and regular, plus ginger ale, in the house for my many friends who drink nothing but.

When I was growing up, I preferred RC Cola to Pepsi or Coke, but I haven't had one in 30 or more years.

In New Jersey I grew up with BROOKDALE soda which came in many flavors (and it was cool to return the bottle for the deposit.)  My own favorite of the many BROOKDALE sodas was Cream and Birch Beer, though I liked their Orange soda too.

Mt. Dew has been my favorite for a while. I also like Mello-Yellow, but it's hard to find.l

When I was growing up we had a local bottling company in town called Clems. They made the usual, Cola, Orange, Grape, Cream Soda, and something called R-Pep, which was their version of Dr. Pepper.

I liked Pepsi too when I was kid. They were the first to have a 16oz bottle and we used to pour a bag of peanuts in the bottle eat them while drinking the Pepsi.

Mello Yello is pretty wide spread here, rather easy to find.

We use to do that with the 10 oz. Dr. Pepper's and those small bags of Planters Peanuts, for some reason it just doesn't taste the same in plastic bottles. I try to buy glass bottles when I can they seem to me to just taste better.

I guess a nice, cold Canada Dry ginger ale is my favorite.  But I also love a good root beer once in awhile.  And whenever I can get my hand on a Coke in a glass bottle (tough to get in the United States, but they seem to be pretty common in other countries).  Ice cold Fresca is also very good.

Sun Drop was a pretty good soda.
We used to have it here in Iowa all the time but it seems to have disappeared.

Another good soda that's been discontinued is Surge.
Ice cold fountain Surge was the best!

As for my favorite...I'd have to say it's A&W Cream Soda.

You can order it but as much as they want for it online it'd about be cheaper to drive here and get it and bootleg SunDrop back to Iowa. Online they want $24.00 case and $13.00 shipping. A tad high when a case here sells for $5.00. I swear they sell it everywhere here, you go to the farm store and they'll have a pallet of it setting out next to the catfish feed and salt blocks, the coke coolers in stores will have all kinds of brands in the coolers and they'll be one entire cooler full of only SunDrop. I have no idea why it's so popular here, half the signs in town advertise it. You know those store name advertising signs like "Hank's Hardware" either end of the sign will have a big SunDrop logo on it. It's rather strange.

Back when my friends and I created the anti-social social group known as H.O.P.E.L.E.S.S., our mascot-like drink of choice was a generic blue raspberry type of soda created by a drink company known as Top Pop. The beverage in question was simply known as "Blue Pop", but was one of the greatest oral sensations the NY and PA region would ever know... or not know, considering it wasn't around long and probably wasn't very popular... even though we bought up entire gas station inventories of the stuff every time we'd get together to watch bad movies in someone's basement for an entire weekend.

Interestingly enough, while searching for an image of the elusive consumable to post here, I discovered an actual MySpace community dedicated entirely to the drink! Despite being a self-imposed societal outcast, sometimes it's good to know you're not alone.  Smile
