IKE made some great music.  Our personal lives are not often so appealing.

Yeah, but in the case of Ike Turner, I feel that his personal shenanigans and hatred towards women greatly overshadowed his tremendous contributions to music as time went on.

Certainly can't defend misogyny, but since I'm personally not privy to details I can only admit to feeling a bit ashamed of IKE TURNER whenever I saw him or heard his name (I saw some program recently with IKE on it, filmed at SAM PHILLIPS' SUN STUDIO, but can't remember the specifics...)

Given his lifestyle involving heavy drugs, I'm surprised he made it to 76.

Your personal life does overshadow your work unfortunately, if brought into the public eye. It's hard to mourn a wife beater. You think people are going to show up to a pedofiles funeral in mass saying "loved his work at the office, too bad about the thing with kids"

when I die i don't want to be remembered for what i did for pop culture or the workforce, i want to be remembered for the person i was and how i was to those i knew.

so i'm quite indifferent to the news

"What's Love Got to Do With It?" Check out the movie w/ Angela Bassett as Tina Turner and Laurence Fishburne as Ike Turner. Accordingly, to those people who knew both of them, it is a fairly accurate portrayal of both of them. At least, by the standards of the Hollywood bio pic.

I'm torn, knowing the kind of person he was, but also knowing the kind of musical talent lurking in the same body as all that hatred.

I saw him perform on some Gorillaz concert on satellite not too long ago. They first used a prerecorded solo he played on the song "Every Planet We Reach Is Dead", then the real Ike walked out on stage and played. He still had some chops.

In the case of art or creative efforts, I often have to separate the work from the person and their behavior. Or else no Roman Polanski, Errol Flynn, Charlie Chaplin, Elia Kazan, or Klaus Kinski films; no Jackson Browne, Boz Scaggs, Sid Vicious, Warren Zevon, or Jim Gordon songs, no Caravaggio or Picasso paintings, no Hemingway.....

I'm repulsed that actor James Stacy was later convicted of child molestation, but I still consider the 1975 film Posse a favorite film. Yet, I won't watch the Jeepre Creepers films because of the director's past. Do people boycott the Naked Gun films in reruns becaue they feel OJ got away with murder?

I don't boycott the Naked Gun movies, but it is real jarring to see OJ in them.  It is hard to watch them anymore.
