Hello goers of the B-Movie variety. Back in town [for about a week but shhh! I've been tired and busy.]
In sum, the trip was incredible. To those who aren't in the know I recently arrived back from a crushingly quick holiday of three weeks to Mexico and Cuba.
I am now of course a sad, depressed wreck that has to work solidly through to Christmas, and realise that I am not on holidays anymore...
Pollution in Mexico City was nowhere near as bad as I thought, and everywhere we went there seemed to be something on. First day we landed was Independence day celebrations. This means demonstrations. Everywhere.
Exciting stuff. Anyways, we stayed in Mexico City for about 5 or 6 nights before flying off to Cuba for 5 nights and back to Mexico to go down south to Oaxaca city.
Everywhere felt safe and fared well with the no espanola.
Cuba was an odd country at first, but was pretty cool once we settled in. As a tourist it's pretty expensive compared to Mexico [the country has two currencies] and in Havana we were by far the youngest tourists, with the rest being British Imperialists and middle aged to just plain aged Europeans. We stayed in a Casa Particular, which is essentially somebodies house that they rent out a bedroom or two for you to stay in. The lady who lived there didn't know english, but was the sweetest lady you could meet.
Oaxaca City was amazingly beautiful: it's an old colonial town that is heritage listed. Lots of bright colours everywhere...
Anyways, that's a super quick round-up I know, but I thought I'd just mention I'm back. Any stories I'll save for when I'm not so tired.
But for now a couple of photos taken whilst away[I took 1200, and very much need to be bothered to upload them all...]
Some Cuban photos: [Havana is really a beautiful city.]
This is the Capital Building in Havana which some Spanish tourist told us that according to the Cubans he talked to was "The same design as the one in the US, but was built a year earlier and is bigger". His response to that was that 'Cubans like to lie.'
On the Melacon in Havana. Got hassled by some hustlers who tried to tell us not to walk further into the 'Old Town' [really nice area] because there were mosquito's which gave you dengue fever. You can recognise the hustlers from the amount of gold they wear. [Cubans aren't really that rich as you'd expect. Tis a bit of a giveaway...]
Some cool building in Havana which I'm sure has a story attached but I just included because it looked good in a photo.
Mexico [of which I need to upload most of my photos...]:
Palace of Fine arts in Mexico City.
On top of the temple of the sun, I think, at Teotihucuan.
Anyways, glad [in some ways] to be back!
As you were...
