I debated whether or not to put this in the Bad Movies section because I've read so many negative reviews and have had friends bash the heck out of this movie.

But you know what?
It wasn't bad at all!

I actually found myself laughing out loud during several scenes.   TeddyR

Norbit is dropped off at Mr. Wong's orphanage when he is just a baby and is raised there for most of his youth.
While there, he meets Kate and they become best friends.  They spend every minute together until she's adopted by a family and leaves the orphanage.

Then he meets Rasputia, an obese and downright mean girl who literally forces the timid Norbit to be her boyfriend.
Cut to many years later when Norbit is a young man.  He eventually marries Rasputia but comes to regret it when Kate, now a beautiful grown woman, re-enters his life.
Needless to say, this does not sit well with Rasputia, who will literally crush anyone and anything that gets in her way.

Meet Rasputia:
Small | Large

------------------------------------------

Eddie Murphy plays Norbit, Rasputia and Mr. Wong in this film.
His best role in it in my opinion is Rasputia.
He does such a good job playing her that you forget it's actually him beneath all that make up in a fat suit.
I found it hilarious when she went on one of her many rampages.    Smile

Watch the trailer:
Small | Large

A lot of people hate this movie but I thought it had a kind of unique charm to it.
If you're in the mood for Eddie Murphy playing three different characters in an often funny film, then you'll like Norbit.

This movie definitely belongs in the Bad Movies section.

Eddie Murphy just got married to the producer of such modern day classics as Who's Your Caddy, Good Luck Chuck and Josie and the p***ycats.  Any hope of Eddie redeeming himself has pretty much gone out the window.  Kind of like Guy Ritchie.

Yep bad movie, if you liked it great. I think Eddie Murphy has about played out his multiple character roles. Norbit in my opinion was just tiring and replays of some of the some ol jokes seen before.

I kept waiting for this movie to get better, but it didn't.  That's not to say that it was awful, just not as funny as it could have been.  I expected Norbit to go all Coward Of The County on Rasputia's ass at the end, but it didn't happen Bluesad

The Kate character became annoying after a while with all her innocent girlish sweetness.  I thought she could be kind and nice without being sickly.

But the makeup was awesome and you have to admire a 400lb woman who thinks she's Heidi Klum   Smile    I'm sure a lot of women of that size think themsevles svelte.   Buggedout

I wouldn't watch it again and I wouldn't recommend it.  And I agree that Eddie Murphy has pretty much played out his multiple character schtick.

Norbit's bad but it's not quite Pluto Nash bad IMO.

Katt Willliams and Eddie Griffen were the best part of the movie.  I didn't hate Norbit but I understand where the criticism comes from.

The criticism comes from the fact that it's a Eddie Murphy film called Norbit about a 400 lb black woman.  Drink It may work for Tyler Perry, not Eddie.

That's what I'm talking about.  I like Eddie's movies, some at least.  This didn't really work on an overall level for him.  It wasn't the worst flick I've seen but it's one of the lesser films he's done.

I haven't seen that one.  I don't usually listen to critics, but this was so badly panned it kind of scared me off seeing it.

I might rent it and see what happens.  I've disagreed with critics heaps of times before.

I kept waiting for this movie to get better, but it didn't.

That's exactly how I describe this movie.  I had high hopes for it, as guilty pleasures of mine are the Nutty Professor movies.

Wasn't as funny, though.

BTW - Hey, everyone.  New to the board.

I re-watched Norbit again the other night on HBO and I think that during my first viewing, the movie caught me at the right time.
It didn't seem as good to me the second time around.

Maybe this thread does need to go in the Bad Movies section.   Lookingup

I felt the same way.  Kinda wish I didn't buy the dvd.

But I do like certain parts.
