I was downstairs recently in my house with my seventeen-month-old cousin to my right, and my aunt's cat a few feet to my left, out of the baby's sight. The cat was licking her paw, Deirdre, the baby, was kind of playing on the floor on a blanket about a foot to my right. The cat abruptly stopped what she was doing, tensed up, stared across the room and tilted her head as if following movement. I didn't see anything but then Deirdre also stopped right in the middle of playing and looked out and (being unable to see the cat or where she was staring, mind you) simultaneously followed the same basic direction of vision as the cat, even going so far as to tilt sideways like she was tracking it. Their eyes were going exactly in the same direction at the same time. There was nothing visibly there but they both appeared to be seeing something move from left to right across the room. Remembering all the things said about animals and children having "the Sight" and all that, it's sort of given me pause...

I was helping roll a patient over so we could get a slider under him and get him back into his bed.

He broke wind in my face.

After seeing the trailer for the Land of the Lost remake, which Hollywood has decided to make into yet another retarded Will Farrel comedy, it occurs to me that if it weren't for independent studios, I would have no reason to even own a DVD player.

The Gaming Club I'm a part of here on campus does an annual charity auction, as part of a yearly convention, with all proceeds going to benefit Ronald McDonald House, helping the families of sick children.  We get all sorts of weird things, and many of them go for pretty high prices.  Last year's big thing was a collection of the cardboard stand-ups used to display Happy Meal Toys in McDonalds.  We've also auctioned off author Robert Jordan's last breath (i.e., an empty plastic bottle, tightly capped), a water bottle autographed by Jesus, a handmade quilt made from ten years' worth of gaming convention T-shirts, and the auctioneer's +5 Boots of Hippie-Kicking.

Today I was visiting all the stores on Main Street with form letters, requesting donations.  Now, we're not technically collecting until the 7th, but some places insisted on giving me stuff now.

The florist filled a bag of stuff for me, saying the collection date was too close to Valentine's Day (which does actually fall in the middle of the convention this year).  When I got back to my room and checked in the bag, can you guess what was in there?

Three dolls, and an assortment of pocket knives and gut-hooks.

I'm confused.

Re-reading Huck Finn has left me wondering what acceptable everyday words we use today will be looked down on by people in a hundred years.
