Told Kristi yesterday I wanted to make a film called "Lego Cave Women In Fur Bikini's" (just because I really liked the sound of it).

Was completely crushed when she told me if I made it, it'd be one she'd she'd forget to watch.

It was a beautiful day here. Low humidity, sunny, warm but not hot. A perfect day to take one of my four favorite people hiking down by the region's most scenic river. We saw a heron, met a water snake, got within twenty feet of a doe and her two fawns, smelled wildflowers, and saw a red tailed hawk's nest with mature chicks sitting on the side. And topped it all off with ice cream. I hope everyone else's day was as nice.

It's not edifying to be an insomniac married to an early sleeper. It does catch me up on a lot of reading, though.

I watch this at least once a week or so, as a confidence booster. You'll see why.

That's it, the "history books" I have had my nose in for a fortnight are going back in the trunk for at least a day or two. Sometimes if you read about the past too much, you start finding yourself living there. It pulls you in like a hopeful promise that can never be fulfilled. Life is about the vast now, the mutable future, not the immobile links in the chain of yesterday, which combined with regret can so easily become a shackle that tugs you backward. Besides, the dead make such bad company. I need a break. A long hike. A bike ride. A day along the river. An afternoon in the city. Places that live and breathe and exude a raw now-ness. I also need some sleep. Night, and may the week ahead bring good things to you, one and all!

Overseas, Muslims are destroying ancient monuments, ruins artifacts, dig sites, etc. that don't fit their notions...

Meanwhile, here in America, they wanna erase the confederate flag, get it remove from people's cars & private property.

There's talks of taring down monuments of founding fathers who owned slaves, taking the founder of the Democrat Party off the $20 bill, and here in Richmond, they wanna level an historic neighborhood to put in a ball park nobody wants...

What bugs me, is it seems like we're seeing some sort of disjointed global effort to eliminate heritage as a whole, & replace it with whatever the leadership gives us...

The solution to ISIS is spontaneous cranial detonation for each and every single one of them.

The whole Confederate flag flap is typical of the overblown hysteria with which America reacts to EVERYTHING these days, whether it be Kaitlyn Bruce Jenner or Cecil the Lion.  On the one hand, the Confederate flag does stand for a short-lived nation-state that was founded for the purpose of protecting and preserving slavery (read the Ordinances of Secession from the Southern states if you don't believe that, BTW!) and probably doesn't need to fly over state capitols.  On the other hand, it is a flag that nearly one million Americans fought under and over 300,000 died for, and it is a part of the South's heritage that has a place at battlefields, cemeteries, and monuments.  A little rationality and balance go a long way in reacting properly to things.  Sadly, they are in short supply on social media and pop culture these days.

That's all true, Indy, but I knew taking down that one memorial (which had already been moved once before) wasn't going to satiate anybody.
Rather, it's served as a green light to miscreant vandals to participate in symbolism control, while haters higher up the food chain aren't just going after confederate monuments, but going after The Founding Fathers for having owned slaves, manipulating all of these matters to fit their belief that America was founded unjustly, and it worries me to think where this line of thinking is headed.

Meanwhile, on the far side of the world, ISIS is destroying the keys to the history of ALL mankind.

I think that there is a lot of rage in certain parts of America because it is easier to be angry at a symptom (police shootings) than it is to cure the disease (a culture of lawlessness that pervades many elements of our society).  There are no easy solutions, and it isn't a problem restricted to any one race or creed.  It's up to people of good will and good sense to do their best to be the voices of reason, and let our logic and calmness pour oil on the troubled waters. That's among our own countrymen.  As far as ISIS goes . . . eradicate them like the virus they are.

My computer's been acting odd ever since I cloned the old HDD over to the new SSD.  Think I'll do a fresh install of everything back on the old HDD and just use that SSD for porn Steam games or something.

Luckily I've only got about a gazillion programs I'll need to re-install and/or re-download.  Should only take a couple of days.  Grrr...

Somebody needs to tell Andy Parker that there already are ways of keeping guns out of the hands of people like me.
And I don't appreciate his language.

Husband and kids are going out of town with his parents this weekend, and my godson's coming over. I can't seem to pull off a kid-free weekend no matter what, can I? Nah, looking forward to this. He's a sweet kid. Tonight I finally might find someone else who appreciates the 1977 Hobbit cartoon.
