I could do a lot on this thread...
Alanis Morrisette "Head Over Feet"
Okay, to me, the song's not bad, I like it, and I know there's a lot AM haters out there, so bite me. BUT, this video sucks. Why? It's BORING. Nothing happens but Alanis staring at the camera. They don't even sync the singing completely, in parts of the video she closes her mouth while the Alanis on the song is STILL singing. It's like no real thought or creativity went into this.
Interesting sidenote... okay, there' s lyric that goes..
"You treat me like I'm a princess
I'm not used to..."
Maybe I'm the only one, but I can NOT understand what the hell she's saying after that. Maybe it's that Canadian accent or something, but I had to LOOK UP the lyrics, and supposedly she's saying, "I'm not used to
LIKING THAT." Er.. okay.
Guns and Roses "???"
Okay, I don't remember what the title of this song was, but basically, the whole video was ONE camera, and ONE take of just the band playing with Axel getting closer to the camera (sometimes so close we could see right down his nose) and then backing.
What REALLY blows about this video was this was back when G&R was making kickass "story" videos (like "Don't Cry" and "November Rain") that seemed to have some plot tying them all together. So, when everyone was wanting another "Chapter" in the saga (Axel even mentioned how future videos would explain the videos that came before), the group gives a big "f**k you" to it's fans with a crappy half-ass video like this.
Almost any "Band performing" video
These are videos where there's no real story or anything, but it's just clips of the band performing, or walking or something. Now, these aren't bad per see, but to me there's a lot of great songs that would translate well into a story format that they just decide to just say, "Ahh, screw it, just have the band playing."
Take Disturbed, "Down With the Sickness." Now, if I had the software, and know how, I'd make my OWN video of this, based on what I see in my head when a listen to the song, a dark, stormy night tale of a man who's slowly transforming into a monster, who finally succumbs to the beast within, crashes through a window and goes on a rampage in the nearby area.
I'm compare this, the band's video to the song
To this, a fan made video with the song paired to clips from the movie 28 Days Later
Personally, I think the later is much more interesting.
Anyway, those are just some examples I can think of off the top of my head.
