Slimo! Slimo! Slimo!

Well, don't just tell us it sucks; tell us why. I can think of worse videos than that one.

Case in point:

Small | Large

What's really bad about this one is that I really do like the song, but it's still a bad video.

Reasons:

1) The remix sucks. The song is meant to be sad and pensive, and as a sad and pensive piece, it works beautifully. What it does not work as is a dance theme for a rave, which is what it sounds like here. Whoever did that remix should be fired: it doesn't even work as a song, much less as a video.

2) The shots of the girl walking down the street are fine, but where the devil is that friggin' desert she keeps singing about? Yeah, yeah, it's symbolic; I know that. Show it anyway! If nothing else, one of the song's greatest strengths is how its twinging high notes evoke the feeling of being in a desert with the sun's rays beating down relentlessly on both the singer and the listener. One of the video's greatest failures is its complete lack of desert scenery. If the budget's not high enough to travel to appropriate locations for a shoot, don't make the video!

3) This shirt-stripping twig of a gang banger is the guy she misses so much? Come on, get over him, girl! He looks like a total loser.

4) Speaking of twigs, if that's a wedding band on her finger, the girl herself looks like she's recently been remarried to heroin. Seriously, she needs a makeover.

5) No, I don't appreciate being shown any of your soft-core porn videos, even--especially--if the people in those videos are more attractive than you.

I could do a lot on this thread...

Alanis Morrisette "Head Over Feet"

Small | Large

Okay, to me, the song's not bad, I like it, and I know there's a lot AM haters out there, so bite me.  BUT, this video sucks.  Why?  It's BORING.  Nothing happens but Alanis staring at the camera.  They don't even sync the singing completely, in parts of the video she closes her mouth while the Alanis on the song is STILL singing.  It's like no real thought or creativity went into this.

Interesting sidenote... okay, there' s lyric that goes..

"You treat me like I'm a princess
I'm not used to..."

Maybe I'm the only one, but I can NOT understand what the hell she's saying after that.  Maybe it's that Canadian accent or something, but I had to LOOK UP the lyrics, and supposedly she's saying, "I'm not used to LIKING THAT."  Er.. okay.

Guns and Roses "???"

Okay, I don't remember what the title of this song was, but basically, the whole video was ONE camera, and ONE take of just the band playing with Axel getting closer to the camera (sometimes so close we could see right down his nose) and then backing.

What REALLY blows about this video was this was back when G&R was making kickass "story" videos (like "Don't Cry" and "November Rain") that seemed to have some plot tying them all together.  So, when everyone was wanting another "Chapter" in the saga (Axel even mentioned how future videos would explain the videos that came before), the group gives a big "f**k you" to it's fans with a crappy half-ass video like this.

Almost any "Band performing" video

These are videos where there's no real story or anything, but it's just clips of the band performing, or walking or something.  Now, these aren't bad per see, but to me there's a lot of great songs that would translate well into a story format that they just decide to just say, "Ahh, screw it, just have the band playing."

Take Disturbed, "Down With the Sickness."  Now, if I had the software, and know how, I'd make my OWN video of this, based on what I see in my head when a listen to the song, a dark, stormy night tale of a man who's slowly transforming into a monster, who finally succumbs to the beast within, crashes through a window and goes on a rampage in the nearby area.

I'm compare this, the band's video to the song

Small | Large

To this, a fan made video with the song paired to clips from the movie 28 Days Later

Small | Large

Personally, I think the later is much more interesting.

Anyway, those are just some examples I can think of off the top of my head.

"We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel

Small | Large

I LOVE the song, but the video doesn't do a thing.  It's like, "I'll sit at a table, there's a fire, and we'll have like, a lady walk around."  I dunno.  The video just bugs me.

I'm looking up more later.

I mean, what's with the decision to start dancing with the guy "who really isn't a rip off of Darth Vader, no, really he isn't."

I can't decide if this is the worst or the best. It's either complete idiocy or unadulterated genuis.

Billy Squier Rock Me Tonite
Small | Large

Billy does make good classic rock n roll but this song pretty much sucks.  The video is filled with shots of him prancing around and undressing in a rather disturbing manner.
