Anyone else dealing with the nasty bug that's been going around -- I've basically been out of it for the last few days.

So far this winter I have been lucky and not gotten sick. For the last two weeks I have had a stuffed nose, but nothing like a sore throat, fever, etc. A little decongestant and I was able to function normally.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

I haven't had a cold in years.  (knocks on wood)
In the past, I couldn't go a few months without getting either a bad chest cold or head cold.  One would go away and then be replaced a few months later.
And when I would get them, they didn't go away after a few weeks.  These were colds that lasted for a month or longer.
Maybe my immune system is doing better these days.

However, lately I've noticed that one nostril always seems to be stuffed up.
One nostril will be clear while the other isn't.
My mom thinks it may be a mild allergy but I'm not allergic to anything. (at least not that I know of)
Any ideas?

By the way, if you had to choose, would you rather have a head cold or a chest cold?
I don't know about you, but I hate coughing.  I'd rather be stuffed up in the head than hacking up phlegm all day long.

I used to get colds all the time...and they would be bad and last forever like Ash described. I usually could expect 3 to 4 full blown sinus infections every year. I constantly (all year long) had my right nostril plugged. Steam would sometimes clear it for a short time but it would come back. Constant sinus pressure there...

This past October, I had sinus surgery done to correct a collapsed sinus cavity on my right side. It was bad. When I saw the x-rays and CT Scans and the doctor talked to me about it, it was amazing to have someone explain all this to me. So he did the surgery and since then, no plugged nose...no sinus pressure...and no sinus infections so far this winter (by now I would have had at least 2). The only thing I had was a cold a week before Christmas...it lasted 8 days from start to finish and wasn't too difficult to deal with.

Ash...you may want to go see a doctor about that if you have insurance. It's expensive without insurance but if you have it...it's worth it just to get rid of that stuffy nose feeling.

I had quite the cold last year, it was mostly situational, regular cold + winter + swimming in gym = I WANT TO DIE!!!  I'm serious I had it for about a month.

This is our last month of summer (thank Goddess) so colds are really around right now.  But it's been raining like a b@stard for a while now, so who knows what will crop up.

I rarely get sick because I absolutely refuse to do so.  I don't have time to be sick, nor do I have the luxury of having someone look after me if I did.  Viruses wouldn't dare infect me!   TeddyR

Raj, you're not the only one that's had a severe cold. I got mine on New Years day, and was bedridden for days afterwards. Even after a few days, it took a long time to recover. For weeks, I could barely talk and sounded like a frog.

I used to get a sinus infection or upper respiratory infection every 3 months it seemed like in the past but for the past couple or so years I've been using that Nasonex stuff in the mornings along with Alavert allergy OTC medication.

I've been staying really well and in fact in all of 2007 I was only sick where I had to go to the doctor just twice.   Most of the other stuff was just minor sniffles that went away pretty quickly.

I RARELY EVER get sick and this past week the Flu has came to my house and kicked everyones butt, I have not gone to work since Weds, which is ok I work for myself by I can not afford o get behind and now I'm further behind, on Thursday I had a fever of 103 and one of the houses I'm working on was broke into and I had to go deal with that, fortunately they only cost me a minimal amount of money. I've spent the bulk of my time, drugged up and sleeping. I think I've drank about 5 gallons of OJ had equally as much Chicken Noodle Soup. I'm not pleasant to be around when I'm sick.

I think I'm no the down hill side of it, as the fever roller coaster seems to be over, still tired and sleeping more than anything else, hopefully Monday I can get back at it. Right now I'm going back to napping.

I've had something for about three weeks now, it started out as the flu for the first few days. My ribs hurt, but I had worked out differently that day and thought I was just sore from that same as my legs. Had two days of fever chills and sweats, my fever broke the second night and I felt well enough to go to work. Since even though it is slow time of the year for me, there is no one to do most of my work and if I'm out for several days I will be too far behind. This will play hell when I take my vacation time, BTW.

I had a sore throat for the rest of the week, a little bit of a stuffed up nose, not much drainage. The coughing was the worst part, especially when I first woke up and the phelgm in my lungs had built up and settled, rarely had problems with it elsewise or I would have been at the doc's right away.

After the first week I've felt fine, better physically than I did right before I got sick, but my voice still sounds ragged and deep and I cough a little. I get to make my Tom Waits jokes about my voice, but I'm getting tired of it all now since I never know what voice will sound like from moment to moment. One minute me, next minute Tom Waits, next up Brad Roberts from Crash Test Dummies. Guess I need to go to the doctor in case this hangs around and turns into bronchitis or pnuemonia, according to some. It was making the rounds at work, and I probably gave it to a few other people, But since my job involves going all over the building, I'm exposed to everyone and vice versa.

I rarely get sick these days since I began to take bette care of myself, maybe twice a year in a bad year. This is the worst thing I've had in a while, for the first two days really, bu else wise no worse than my childhood allergies. The last cold I got was in the fall, and lasted a total of three days and I felt better after the third day than in the time before I got that one. My best friend has three stepsons, all school age, so someone is always sick in their house. I'm over there a lot yet I rarely catch anything from them. At first I thought I had what his wife had this time, but her cold and my thing took completely different paths, so it's hard to tell.
