So much to choose from...
GORGO, THE CREEPING TERROR, THE BEGINNING OF THE END, GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER, GODZILLA VS. MEGALON, MIGHTY JACK, THE DEADLY MANTIS, THE BLACK SCORPION...
How does one choose?
Why, the Hercules flicks alone are a genre unto them selves! Pizza,pizza!

MANOS (of course), THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE, SANTA CLAUS v. THE MARTIANS and THE WILD WORLD OF BATWOMAN stand out in my mind.  I also have a fondness for CATALINA CAPER and I ACCUSE MY PARENTS, because I like it when they tackle non-horror/sci-fi stuff.

I think the funniest thing they ever did, without question, was the MR. B-NATURAL short from episode 319 (WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST).

That's a tough question, but I think I'll have to go with Pod People.

Do you prefer Mike or Joel Episodes? Personally, I prefer Mike Nelson over Joel any day, of course I am sure I will get shouted down..

Not at all ELO, I'm a supporter of the Mike camp myself. I prefer his wacky, over-the-top, self-deprecating style as opposed to Joel's desert dry wit and frequent use of movie and TV references that are too obscure for me to pick up on. Joel's great and you can't deny he's the reason the show exists, but I'm sorry to say that sometimes Joel episodes put me to sleep. More than likely, the guy's just too damn smart for stupid ol' me.  TongueOut

Actually, I like both guys - they both have their good and bad episodes but overall, it's like asking me which of my children I prefer.

I...just can't choose.   Buggedout

I used to simply hate this show completely, as the stupid comments would frequently obscure the stupid real dialogue of the actual film --
However, someone showed me the Mystery Science version of The Wild World of Batwoman, and I did appreciate the commentary --
However, I'm still p.o'd at them for talking over EEEGAAH!
* * *
In general, I would say that the funny dialogue of a bad film should stand or fall on its own merit.
I did used to enjoy the LA Connection, whose deal was to substitue their own dialogue for bad films.  Ditto my Dear Friends, The Firesign Theater, and their G-Men stuff, etc.  Dialogue substitution, to me, takes wit -- something I find the whole Mystery Science people lacking in.
Smart remarks are sort of something one used to do to pass the time in Social Studies in High School -- it's not as if you're actually writing something of merit --
* * *
And would some fan of Mystery Science please tell me what the attraction is in the endless, pointless, interminable "skits", so called, that go on forever before they get to the actual films?
And the "break" skits??? -- Wherein some painfully unfunny business based upon the film being screened is driven into the dirt?  This brings back my GERD . . .
These things are painful to watch -- Really poor/bad skits . . . something that would not have passed muster on 1947 Television, which would show anything.  Who cares a rat's posterior for who put them in a satellite or why they're being "tortured", or what??
This is Captain Kangaroo time, people -- NO, I take that back:  Captain Kangaroo actually can amuse 5-year-olds.  The white-haired whoever-she-is at the beginning of the Mystery Science things is not even as pleasant as drying paint . . . And we get SO MUCH of her!!! Aren't we lucky??
No, I DID try to be polite, but I simply STILL can't abide the driods or crow or whoever these people are.  I'm very happy that they found a way to make a living doing substandard comedy -- Somewhere, some town in Iowa is missing a taxi driver -- but I find little or no joy in them --
peter curmudgeon/denny can't go on . . .

Wow...really? I love the host segments. It gives us a chance to see and hear Mike and the bots without the movie interrupting.

P.J. : Fair enough. I can only say it works for me.
Some films can only be improved with riffing. I can see your point about letting bad duologue be its own reward..."Well, Inspector Clay is dead. Murdered. And Somebody is responsable"...but I have fun when a film gets he nuclear scale wedgie it deserves.

For me it would have to be Eegah followed closely by The Brain That Wouldn't Die.  Of course I've only seen these two, so it's an easy choice.   TeddyR
