Someone I know was telling about this website where you could  list and get all sorts of things for free, stuff like books, clothes, you name it. He said the main purpose of the website was to keep all the stuff listed from ending up in a landfill.  However, he couldn't remember WHAT the website was called, only "Green" something or other.  I did some web search "free stuff" and "green free stuff" and found a lot of websites, but nothing like he was describing.

Just curious if maybe anyone knew the site he was talking about...

I knew I'd heard of this because I read an article at Howstuffworks.com about it a while back.

It's called "Freecycling" AKA "The Freecycle Network".

Here's the article:
http://money.howstuffworks.com/freecycle-network1.htm

The Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freecycle_Network

And here's their official site:
http://www.freecycle.org/

Beware of the words "free stuff" when it comes to the internet.  There is always a catch.  Even if it's just you paying postage for stuff to come to you.

I post a lot of stuff on freecycle, I always have construction debris left over, or deconstruction stuff that people want. Carpet, cabinets, doors, windows, door knobs, tubs sinks, scrap lumber, etc ... it's better than sending it to the dumb and someone might get some use out of it.

I just posted tonight 2000 sq ft of carpet, used kitchen cabinets (vintage 70's), metal garage door and some lovely avocado green bathroom fixtures.

It was all asked for within a hour and it saves me about $200 in dump fees.

I had to bump this thread because I'm irked that I never got a "Thank You" from BTM.
It took me almost an hour to remember and dig up this Freecycling stuff.
I really racked my brains trying to remember what it was.

Ash,

Whoa.. I didn't thank you?

Wait, you're right, I DIDN'T thank you!  Sorry about that... thought for sure I posted a reply... maybe it was one of those replies I was working on and then closed the browser without remembering to hit post... (sometimes I'm posting stuff here and LJ at the same time... I've got a short attention span.)

Anyway, THANKS!  :)

(Sorry I didn't say it sooner!)

Your welcome BTM!   Smile
I kept wondering if you were gonna reply but it never happened.
Did you end up telling your friend about the Freecycle network?

No, I keep forgetting to.  Actually, he mentioned to me after I talked about trying to find some bowling shoes that might fit me (I wear a size 16 3E).  (Doubt any of 'cylers will have that, but hey, it's worth a shot.)
