The 60's was the best era for television in my opinion.  Even when taking the lack of choice due to most people not having cable into consideration.

Whenever I catch TV Land running a show from the 60's (which is unfortunately happening less and less these days), my channel surfing stops there.  I can watch shows like Andy Griffith, Mr. Ed, Green Acres, The Munsters, etc. all day long regardless of how many times I may have seen them before.

Why?  I'm not sure, but it can definitely be likened to comfort food.

I would be more than willing to trade 195 of the 200 or so channels I get for just one all-60's channel.

The only current shows I care to watch regularly are South Park and Supernatural.

Keep in mind that television was really coming into it's own in the 60's. There were great shows in the 50's, but there was also a ton of crap that was put on only because the fascination with tv was still so new that they could produce pretty much anything and people would watch because they were just so amazed by just the existence of the glowing box bringing images from far away. The viewing audiences demanded more as the 60's came in, but mixed in was a willingness to try anything. Ratings systems were still in their infancy and it was still too early to know exactly what would or would not stick.

If you noticed from LAND OF THE GIANTS the front of their space liner SPINDRIFT looks like the FLYING SUB from VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA
