Jar Jar Bings (agreed, worst of all times)

Wesley Crusher (does he even count as sidekick?)

Howie Munson (…)

Scooter, or probably Robin (they can't ruin one of the best shows ever, though)

The second guy from Pet Shop Boys (well, both of them)

Sidekick Goofy is actually better than Mickey Mouse, tit'sh it’s a close call (Donald rules!)

Ernie and Bert (hah, two in one!)

Lagomorphs: menace or underutilized resource?

« Reply #2 on: March 11, 2008, 11:37:48 AM »

Jar Jar is definitely annoying, and he helped to ruin the new Star Wars movies, but I must say that I do actively hate Scrappy Doo. I don't watch Scooby Doo anymore, but I remember Scrappy coming out when I was younger and thinking that he was the most annoying, pointless character I had ever seen. I'm sure there are others that are equally annoying, but most of them were never named in the show title. Hanna-Barbera did more to ruin cartoons than any other company in history. They seem to be largely responsible for the attitude (in America, at least) that cartoons are just for kids. Warner Brothers, Tex Avery, and even MGM made animated shorts that were enjoyable for the whole family. Hanna-Barbera shows are almost always only watchable to kids (there are exceptions, but they are few and far between).

Oh, wait, this thread is about sidekicks, not animators. Ooops!

How about:
Jimmy Olsen (from the George Reeve Superman series)
That stupid narf cat from Thundercats (I rarely watched the show, thanks in part to that character)
The mechanical owl in Clash of the Titans

Jar Jar was pretty much awful.  I think if he was removed from Episode I it would have turned out to be a much better film that it ended up being.

Scrappy Doo was annoying, he just wanted to fight everyone then he would always end up in trouble.

Yup, no arguing with Jar Jar.  If we count Annakin as Obi Wan's sidekick, he gets an honorable mention too.

Also, that guy in 5th Element deserves a mention.  And the comedy relief guy in Anacondas Hunt for the Blood Orchid.  Any time they have a really annoying comedy relief character that the writer/director/whoever made the horrible mistake of believing to be "cute", man I wanna kill 'em.

I hate Scrappy, Jar Jar, Bird Boy, and Super Dog as much as the next guy but, the worst sidekick IMO has to be Robin (#3 on that list).

As a huge Batman fan, I detest Robin almost as much as I do Batgirl.  Batman is a dark, brooding, detective heavily trained in martial arts, interrogation, and the arts of a magician (escape arts) among other useful skills (stealth, endurance, etc.,).  He was great as a loner and his personality kinda supports that.  He uses fear to his advantage.

In comes Robin, a homoerotic acrobat who (in various forms) makes cheezy one-liners, wears the worst colors for stealthy operations.  He incites fear in no one.  I think he was created to give someone for Batman to talk to during his adventures while at the same time supposedly giving the young adolescent girls (and some boys) someone to gawk at/relate to.

Jon Lovitz's supremely annoying character in National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1.

I know Lethal Weapon 2 is an anti-South African film and I am therefore supposed to hate it, but I don't really. #2 most annoying sidekick: Joe Pesci as Leo Getz..........."OK, OK, OK, OK, OK...."  I was rather hoping that one of the "South Africans" in that movie would shoot him in the voice box.

Hell, let's not forget Godzooki, if he counts as a sidekick.

Damn, I thought Jar Jar saved Phantom Menace, imo.

Jon Lovitz was pretty damn funny in Loaded Weapon 1.

I immediately thought of Orco from He-Man and Snarf from Thundercats.

Spridle and Chim-chim from Speed Racer, characters so annoying they spent most of the time locked in a trunk (sadly, they never axphyxiated Hatred).
