Widmark was pretty versatile. Check out this bit from Kiss of Death, heck he would have made a great Joker in Batman.

That's very sad indeed.

Richard Widmark was in the film which opened up a magic world for me as a child: Sidney Lumet's Murder On The Orient Express. He played the billionaire fugitive from justice named Samuel Ratchett, alias Cassetti.

R.I.P. He was a great talent more than able to adapt to whatever role he was given. Probably best remembered for his villainous turns in NO WAY OUT and KISS OF DEATH , he was great in other roles too like PANIC IN THE STREETS where he actually played hero and NIGHT AND THE CITY where he played a down on his luck wrestler/hustler. There's something decidedly real about his characters even when they're disturbing, twisted individuals.
