There was a movie out in the late 70's early 80's and the plot was a wealthy exec type found out he had a son adopted maybe? i can't remember but the son was probably close to 18 or so and was African American and i think the guy had to choose between his high dollar job or getting to know his son.
He chose his son and lost it all and at the end of the movie he was walking along the highway and a ragged horrible chevy impala (probably a 59-61) convertible pulls up and it turns out it's the guys son and they drive off into the sunset.

Any ideas?

That sounds like Carbon Copy starring Denzel Washington and George Segal.
