My Zebra Finch's chicks came out of the nest today TeddyR Two healthy white-and-grey balls of fluff, they're already taking short flaps around the cage. The mother is also doing much better since moving her to another cage; one of the other birds had been beating her up, plucking out her feathers and giving her a black eye. She's almost recovered, though, the new pins grew in and will become feathers within the next five days or so.

Congratulations!

Zebra Finches are beautiful birds; then, there are few birds that aren't.

It has been a long time since I have been active with birds. I used to have Hooded Mannikins and Green Singing Finches, as well one bronco of a Senegal Parrot.

Do you raise the birds to provide them to shops or is this more of a personal interest for you?

It's a personal interest in animals with me although at this rate (2 chicks + 5 in the other cage) I'm going to have to either get more cages, bigger cages, or hand them over to the bird department at the local PetSmart or a bird specialty shop in my town. Chicks are like kittens or puppies: you don't think about the downside to having so many TongueOut

Cool, congrats.

Did you use artificial insemination (a la Island of Dr. Moreau, or were you able to get a zebra to mate with a finch?
