I saw this as a kid and it has been driving me crazy to find the title.  Mountain man gets attacked by a grizzly and is out in the wilderness (Back in the indian times). and has to mend himself. I think he is accused of killing his wife and child but don't quote me on that.  He finds a rabbit with a broken leg and puts a splint on it.  A family of indians ride by where the mountain man is living and the female gets off horse, goes by a tree, has the baby and gets back on the horse.  Another seen is there is some kind of military outfit that has to bring a ship across country (looks like an wooden ark).  Indians attack the boat and men, it's winter time.  Can anyone help me find the title.  This had to be in the 70's.     Margaret

"Man in the Wilderness" involves a man attacked by a grizzly who is left to die and must fend for himself.  I *think* the commander of the military expedition that the Indians attack was one of the men who left the grizzly victim to die.  I've never seen the whole thing, though.

I've seen "Man In The Wilderness" and I'm pretty sure that it is your movie. I don't fully remember the woman giving birth but I do remember the expedition where the trappers (not soldiers) are transporting their ship across the plains in winter using a mule team. There was a scene where the crew kept the attacking Indians (Arikawas?) at bay with small cannons mounted on the decks.
There was also a bear attack at the beginning which leaves the hero to crawl cross-country, eventually meeting the Indian tribe.

I think there is a scene in "Little Big Man" where a woman gives birth near a tree during an attack on her village, so perhaps you are thinking of that, but the film with the ship and the bear mauling is definitely "Man in the Wilderness."
