I liked this movie!

It had a plot, that's a good thing. It had a coherent story that's even better. the jest of the story is per IMDB summery "A young psychiatric intern Clark Stevens (Joshua Leonanrd) comes to Cunningham Hall, a mental healthy facility administrated by Dr. Franks (Lance Henriksen), for a training period before his graduation in medical college. He gets close to the resident Sara (Jordan Ladd) and to Ben London, a dangerous patient lodged in cell 44 in the basement of the clinic. Clark becomes intrigued with a boy, who seems to be a ghost, and finds that Dr. Franks does not use real medication in the patients. A further investigation shows hidden dark secrets in the clinic."

Now with that said I'm not going to tell you much more about the film as I do not want to rune it for it, no spoilers here.
Safe to say it kept my attention and it was full of imagery and a fair amount of gore. There where a few surprises and as usual few predictable thing. It had it assorted misdirections and a few cliche characters, but over all a really enjoyable film. I'm not sure of the quality of the rewatchability (not a word, I know) seeing how I now know how it ends, but it was well worth the rental fee of 50 cents. It was far better than most of the Gallery fare movies you can get.

My only real gripe was the audio it went from real soft spoken word to real loud sound effects far to much and with other folks sleeping in the house I had to keep my hand on the volume control button, because I mean it got loud in a hurry. Other than that I say find it and enjoy it.

I'm giving it 3.5 stars out of 5!

Here's the trailer ...

i liked this movie also, its a good 'rent'. I know what you mean about the sound, as i watch most of these kinds of movies after my daughter goes to bed, you wind up playing red rover with the volume control on the remote and it can be rather agitating.

Madhouse gave my eyeballs a seizure. Besides that this movie did nothing for me, and I really wanted to like it because I'm a sucker for mental facility horror movies. Asylum Of The Damned (2003) was pretty bad as well but it had a few fun and cheesy moments.

I suggest staying away from William Butlers other movie Furnace (2006) which is basically a Madhouse remake but only worse.

It's a minor favorite of mine as well.  I must admit that Jordan Ladd is the main attraction for me  Smile  The movie really doesn't miss any opportunity to add depth and intrigue to the plot.  The ending caught me totally by surprise as well.

I know what you mean about the sound, SOOOOOO many movies bug me like that.  Legion of the Dead is the all-time worst offender.  All the dialogue is poorly recorded, and faint to the point of being inaudible.  You turn up the volume enough to hear it, and then some special effects noise comes along and practically blows your speakers right off the wall.  A Nightmare on Elm Street is horrible that way too.  I recently got a new surround sound receiver with a "late night mode" that's compresses the sound, so the soft stuff is louder and the loud stuff is cut off at a certain point.  A real godsend when it comes to surround sound tracks these days.

Madhouse is a good rent but for some reason I didn't like the ending to much. I actually liked the alternate ending much more.

Furnace did suck though. Most of the actors gave that vibe "I'm just here to get a check". Shame to because the cast where well know and had potential.
