Must have caffeine...

« on: May 23, 2008, 05:29:18 AM »

Has anyone else see the recent USA and SciFi airings of Raiders of the Lost Ark? There's some big to-do over a supposedly digitally altered shot, where Gobler's car goes flying off the cliff during the chase scene. Apparently they redid the cliff and mountains in the background in CGI. I didn't believe it myself until I saw the actual clip.

Check it out here, at roughly eight seconds:

Small | Large

And here it is as compared to the original version:

Small | Large

Even with YouTube's questionable visual quality, the TV version (the version on the bottom) is obviously different. The best example is the mountains five seconds in:

However what's odd is this has only been seen on the TV airing(s) and not on the new DVDs.

Watched both.  There is a big difference.  I like the newer version.  I think this time change was good.

Would GL just do a remake and get it over with? Stop f***ing with the originals. G-f***ing-whiz already.

Dunno, for me it looks more remastered than CGI.  Not that it is but still its what comes across. Good catch on that btw, I would have never noticed.
