I saw a movie on television in the late 1970s or early 1980s. It began with an attractive young woman in what I remember to be a light colored, thigh-length night gown. She had the typical, light brunette poufy hair of the time. She was retiring to bed for the evening, when she heard disturbing scratching somewhere in the house. She ever so slowly moved through the house looking for the source when the gratuitous pet cat jumped out at her. Relieved, she worked her way back to bed only to hear the scratching again. It wasn't the cat. So, she retraced her steps to a closet in which she found an emaciated, ghost white, elderly man standing in a loin cloth. He reached out with one arm and violently grabbed her by the hair on the crown on her head. She fought him off and ran out the front door of her house. She then stood screaming in the middle of a surburban street until all the neighbors turned on their lights and hurried outside.

An abrupt cut shows the same woman in professional or conservative dress walking up steps and through a spacious public space. (It's the next day.) I believe there where white marble stairs and lots of people milling around. She's with other professionals. She's talking rather casually when a huge painting catches her eye. It's a portrait of the angels that "fell." She notices that the head angel resembles the man in her closet.

And it was about this time that my grandmother or grandfather grabbed me away from the TV and hurried me off to bed. Finally, I can't place the year, but I believe this movie came out in some form around the time the original Salem's Lot appeared (1979). I also believe my grandfather was alive at the time, which would date the movie to 1980 or earlier. Please help.

I LOVE you all!!!! That movie has bothered me for 30 years. I had given up hope when I saw zero replies for days on end, but I checked back today on a whim. I'm going to run out and buy it and scare myself all over again. It goes for $1.49 on Amazon. LOL.
