I was listening to my local talk station this morning . . . at a Dallas City Council Meeting, the Police Commissioner was complaining about the Traffic Ticket Office - tickets were being turned in and never being processed, and he made the remark "It's like there's some kind of black hole in there."

A black city councilman demanded an apology for his denigrating use of the term "black" and accused him of being racist.

As long as idiots like that continue to stir the pot, racial harmony will not be realized - not every mode of expression is intended to insult someone!

He must think Stephen Hawking is Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. And what about those guys trying to stop the Large Hadron Collider? They don't even want black holes on the same planet as them. All it takes is a couple of black holes and there goes the neighbourhood. Bigots.

If it's just a freaking sign, why are you upset that they're changing it to be more accurate?  I wouldn't spend money to replace the existing ones, just use the new ones from now on, but it's only costing the city of Atlanta $1000 to change over, well less than a penny a taxpayer (probably about what the project's worth).

Indy's example is pretty depressing, though.  How can you be qualified to be a City Councilman if you don't know the meaning of the common term "black hole"?

I don't think he's talking so much about this one example, but rather about the routine wasting of limited time, money and resources on superficial and sometimes awkward changes to spare the feelings of the easily offended.

I heard that on the radio today ... I found the duct tape just in time!

He's not?? Question

Watch him, he just sets there and stares at you, unflinching ... you know he up to something.

If you don't get it, I don't have time to explain it to you ...

Never mind, AndyC did it for me! Thanks.

Pretty soon we'll have to change the term woman to woperson, naturally man will be turned into scumperson because men are scum.  And no, that is not a generalization of men, it's a fact.  I mean, why would feminists make generalizations about men. Lookingup

On that idea, isn't feminism by name women being superior and not equal?  Think about it.

I always was offended by restroom signs.  The women's dress is too high and the man's pants are way too tight.

Not to mention that they presume the woman is wearing a dress and the man wearing pants. How callous.

Exactly, what if I was a Scotish gentlemen visiting the country in my kilt.  Or say a woman in a pants suit goes into the wrong room by mistake.  Or maybe you're a person with an multiple gender personalities. Where are the morals people.

And shouldn't restroom signs be representative of the whole population? Shouldn't a certain percentage of the men be wearing a turban, or the women a hijab? An extensive study needs to be done to determine the exact makeup of the population using each public washroom. Then we can design a multicultural assortment of signs, distributing them according to the ethnic distribution of the restroom-using population. And so as not to leave anyone out, smaller versions of all the other signs will also be posted on each door, with an accompanying legend explaining which cultures are depicted, and that each are meant to identify this as a restroom, along with a vision statement explaining the importance of inclusiveness in restroom signage.

Or we could just mark the doors XX and XY. Anybody offended by that? Oh right, the psychos with two Ys. Sorry.
