I really cannot believe my fellow Pretoria citizens. They are in major arrears to the city council with their rent, eviction procedures are taken against them so those that are being evicted decide to burn the building: bugger the people who pay their rent.

There is a video on the page as well as pictures of the building ~ five people including a baby died in this tragedy.

I lived in this area from 1987 to 1998 and got out when urban decay hit the area in a big way.

Didn't watch the video, but jeez that's a bad situation.  Who are the Red Ants?  Sounds like the goon squad from the article.

Mass evictions sound like a really good way to stir up a whole heap of trouble, no wonder things blew out the way they did.

Dean, the Red Ants are a kind of vigilante squad who, on orders from the s**tty, sorry, City council, go to evicted residents' places with batons and guards and remove the peoples' belongings. They don't just remove them, they throw the peoples' meagre possessions out on the pavement. That makes me a little  to see them do that and the people are powerless to stop them. Welcome to the New South Africa!
