BoyScoutKevin, your correct to mention Mt. Vernon along with Monticello. Both are great homes of our first few presidents. Been to both and no photos or video allowed in either of those places.
Since the video has been up for a weel I'll give you a list of the places in order. Most of our trip concentrated on National Parks and National Historic Area's.
Great Falls of the Potomac - Just a about 10 minutes North of Washington D.C. on the Maryland side. One of the most interesting falls/cascades in the U.S.. Right along the River is the Patowmack Canal and barge.
http://www.nps.gov/grfa/Shenandoah National Park - Drove along the length of Skyline Drive and stayed at the Skyland Hotel within the park. Great sunsets and wildlife and some nice trails. One of the trails we went on was to Dark Hollow Falls which is shown on the video.
http://www.nps.gov/shen/Monticello - Home of Thomas Jefferson. Great piece of history.
http://www.monticello.org/Natural Bridge - History landmark that many had been to including Thomas Jefferson. The place is a real tourist trap. They have a wax museum, haunted house, a big hotel, and more on the site and they charge you for each or you can buy a package deal. We just went to the Natural Bridge. By the way in the evenings they do a light show call "Creation".
http://www.naturalbridgeva.com/Mt. Pilot State Park - Great little place located not far from Mt. Airy, North Carolina where Andy Griffith was from and where the town and overall show idea originated.
http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/pimo/main.phpGreat Smokey Mountain National Park - On the North Carolina/Tennessee border it has peaks like the Clingmans Dome which is 6,684 ft.. Very nice park with lots to do in the towns just outside the park. Places like Gatlingburg, Pigeon Forge, Cherokee, Maggie Valley, Asheville all have lots to offer. Great destination with plenty to entertain you.
http://www.nps.gov/grsm/http://www.clingmansdome.com/New River George National River - Wow, if you want to go white water rafting this is a good place. Purchased a couple photos of the river run, but didn't want to take my digital camera because you will definately get soaks on this trip and you won't have time to operate it along with the paddle when you hit the white water.
http://www.nps.gov/neri/http://www.officialbridgeday.com/Lexington, Va - We stopped by here on the morning back home and found that the town had a lot of history as its home to Virginia Military Institute.
http://www.vmi.edu/ http://www.lexingtonvirginia.com/Manassas National Battlefield - Made a stop here for a stretch and watched a firearms demonstration.
http://www.nps.gov/mana/National Shrine Of Immaculate Conception - Washington D.C. is the site of our last stop. It's a great place of pilgrmage and prayer. You'll really enjoy this place no matter what your religion.
http://www.nationalshrine.com/site/pp.asp?c=etITK6OTG&b=106948Franciscan Monastery - While at the National Shrine we found out about this Monastary just a mile away, but we decided to go home and return in a couple days. Upon returning two days later we went on a guided tour. Never would you image that a place like this exist in the U.S.
