I think I saw this movie in the 60s or early 70s about hundreds of baboons in the desert of Africa that relentlessly hunted this famous Hollywood actor. It was a remarkable performance of survival, and I don't remember if the baboons ate him or if he got away. Thought the actor was Charton Heston, but a search of his movies turned up nothing.  I think the actor was a blond and he was very muscular, as all  his clothes ended in shreds except his trousers that were reduced to ragged shorts. As a young girl, I was very impressed with this sexy actor that made spears and bow and arrows in the desert to live.  This movie was quite the talk of the town back then, because it was sort of risque for its time.  And boy, I never saw anyone run so fast in my life! During the entire movie I sat on the edge of my seat. I bought "In the Shadow of Kilimanjaro", which was a similar baboon attack movie, but it was not my mystery movie. I would love to get a copy of this old movie & share it with my family.  Does anyone know the name of this movie?

Probably "Sands of the Kalahari" (1965).

Andrew's 100% correct, it is Cy Endfield's "Sands of The Kalahari" and the actor concerned is Stuart Whitman.  Smile

www.imdb.com/title/tt0059675

SPOILER

The ending is left purposely ambigious: Stanley Baker and Susannah York are rescued and Stuart Whitman remains behind in the desert, either becoming baboon chow or becoming the king of the desert baboons.  Buggedout

I know I can make it on my own if I try, but I'm searching for the Great Heart
To stand me by, underneath the African sky
A Great Heart to stand me by.

Thanks Andrew, I tried to order it on Amazon, but the only copy I found was damaged.  I'll keep looking.
