I remember in 1972 when Spitz won 7 Gold Medals, I was proud of him, I was 9 years old and had the poster of him and his medals ... now 36 years later, Michael Phelps has a real good chance at breaking that record as he now has the most lifetime medals ever won at 10 Gold currently as of this writing and Spitz is whining because he not being treating like some big celebrity and wasn't invited to the Olympics as some honored guest.
Whatever Mark ... you held the record for 36 years, be proud if someone breaks it, especially a fellow countrymen. Quit the whining.

Sounds like somebody is living in the past. His achievement was 36 years ago, and he's apparently still got a good deal of his self-worth wrapped up in it. Or maybe I'm giving him too much credit. Maybe he's just taking the opportunity to grab some of the spotlight while he has the chance, get some attention, maybe make a buck or two.

I can't help but be reminded of Adam West prior to the release of Tim Burton's Batman, or Ralph Bakshi when Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy was on the way.

In any case, I'm sure Spitz would have been thrilled if somebody else was trying to relive their own glory days by horning in on his victory in 1972.

Maybe they saw Spitz's post-Olympics television "performances" on shows like Emergency and The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and were afraid an invite might encourage him to renew his acting career.

Well it looks like Phelps and going to get Spitz, as he just won his 6th Gold in this Olympics, matching his wins in Athens in 2004 he guy is a machine with 12 lifetime gold so far making him the most awarded Olympian ever. He also just tied Spitz for the most world records at I believe it is 26.

I'm not a huge sports fan, but I always enjoy the Olympics as they do it for the love of the sport.

I forgot about that, didn't he b***h out some interviewer, , I'm thinking one of the goofy VJ chicks from MTV? . . .

I remember it and I thought 'Adam, you're a little old to be Batman now.' but he, like Spitz is living in the past.

Not too surprising. Former star athlete, now a stockbroker. To me, that alone suggests he's an a$$hole, before he even opens his mouth.

This latest BS makes it pretty clear that Spitz is in no way sincere. He's just just an opportunist trying to grab some attention and maybe make a buck.

Michael Phelps may be going the same way as Mark Spitz in one regard, as Phelp's has signed-on to host an upcoming episode of "Saturday Night Live."

Every major feat of any kind is simply a challenge for the next crop of participants to attempt to better it. Given Phelp's raw talent and modern training, surely it was only a matter of time before Spitz's achievements were bettered.

Someday Michael Phelps may be surpassed, perhaps by a race of 3 legged super freaks who can run marathons in a matter of seconds .....2080 maybe  Lookingup
