i've started compiling all the great joe-bob briggs clips i can find on youtube. there are a few older ones out there that i haven't added, and that's because i didn't think they were especially interesting. i was saddened to see so few of them online, but there's this one user, laylurikyu, has been posting a bunch of clips lately.

The Dungeonmaster

I miss the days of Joe-Bob Briggs. He used to give me something to look forward to on Saturday night.

absolutely. you gotta' love the gimmick, too. he comes across as this crass hick, when all the while he's actually a really knowledgeable film buff.

Rev. Powell

Who-Bob whah now?  Never heard of him.

After being a big fan of his newspaper column, I never took to his screen persona.  The writing just wasn't as crisp, and I missed the stable of regular redneck characters like Chubb Fricke, Cherry Dilday, Bubba Barclay, Wanda Bodine, and "Ugly-on-a-Stick."  I guess the "real" Joe Bob didn't match the image in my mind.

It's too bad his two classic books of drive-in reviews are out of print.  You can find some of his later reviews here.  By the end he's stepping out of character far too much; he's more John Bloom than Joe Bob.  The best years of the column were 1985-1988.

If you haven't caught Joe Bob in writing, you're in for a treat.  He's 10x funnier than the Movie Channel stuff.

I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

As I first learned of Joe-Bob by the Monstervision gig, I did not have the same reaction as Rev. Powell. Like both versions. I just accepted the TV changes as par for the course. Loved the interactions, particulary with a guest who rolled with the set up.
(Sigh) How I miss those drive-in totals.

If you want to help bring him back to TNT, take a second and sign this petition ... spread the word. Thanks!
