Thank God they're only chicken hearts. At first glance, I thought they were some kind of animal testicles.

I don't mind chicken or turkey hearts, but I've only ever eaten them as a bit of a treat, roasted in a pan with the rest of the bird. At Christmas or Thanksgiving in our family, you'd be lucky to snag the heart, neck or other morsel before the meal.

But roasted is one thing and boiled is another. The hearts in that noodle bowl are just plain old grey meat, not the least bit browned. Not very appetizing to me.

By the way, that bowl of noodles and hearts looks like it's in one of those ramen noodle cups.
Is it?

Basically, , but it's an Asian version, , I believe this one is Kim Chee flavored. Lots of red pepper and garlic.

I recall seeing a pig's severed head once and thinking what could someone actually do with that.

There's an Asian/seafood market in Anchorage that has pig heads there right in the freezer.

Boiled means you don't dislocate your jaw trying to chew them.

Raw bacon is GREAT! It's like regular bacon, only faster, and it doesn't burn the roof of your mouth!

Since we seem to have UK readers here, let me just say that I'd happily eat that soup before I'd eat "Marmite" (which sounds like something you'd make counters from and tastes like floor wax) or "Brown Sauce" (which doesn't sound like a food substance at all, and tastes even worse than Marmite).

Isn't Marmite very similar to Vegemite?

A friend brought me some back from Australia - an acquired taste, I'd imagine.

Yes, it's the Australian/New Zealand equivalent.

It was like little plastic discs with a foreskin round them, an you know they mix all sorts of crap into sausages, the cheaper they are. It's the old "mystery meat" thing...

I figured that was it. I always just assumed some percentage of crap meat was part of any real sausage. Like those Johnsonville Gristle Balloons people seem to be so fond of.
