This morning my gas gauge looked like this:

So I stopped at the gas station this on my way to work.  On the way in, I didn't notice the big sign that shows how much regular unleaded is.
When I got out of my car and swiped my card at the pump, I noticed the price displayed by a digital readout right above the pump handle.
It read $2.99!   Smile
It's been a long time since I've paid under $3 for a gallon of gas.  Never thought I'd be elated to pay less than that.
I was going to put $10 in but I though, "Oh what the hell..." and put $20 in.   Thumbup

Aren't the gas prices being affected by the current economic crisis?  Anyone know the specifics on that?

How are gas prices where you live?

My gas tank was almost on empty so I stopped at the gas station this morning on the way to work.  On the way in, I didn't notice the big sign that shows how much regular unleaded is.

Ash, we're now paying 9 South African rand for a litre of petrol ~ about a month ago, it was R10 a litre. That is way too expensive for a country that supposedly can make oil from coal.  Question

Not to be cynical or anything, but there's a strange correlation between sudden price drops in October and election years in recent memory.

Yeah, based on world events gas should be up. In the southeast areas hit by the recent hurricanes, I've been hearing about gas stations being out of fuel. Gas production in the gulf gets damaged by these storms, and at other times (oh, not to be cynical or anything, but at NON-ELECTION times) that damage has resulted in spikes in prices.

I live near the PA/NJ border with frequent trips to NY. The best gas prices in NJ, which is always the lowest of the three, were at $3.11 the last time I looked (maybe a week ago), while gas prices in PA were at best around $3.35. The NYC area at the same time was still over $3.50.

$3.09 here in parts of Toledo.  Gas prices are really affected by the current economic crisis, there's less demand.  Plus there's the switch from having all those summer boutique blends to winter blends.  For me over the summer I had to go to Virginia twice and rather than my usual driving, at $4 a gallon I took Amtrak.  Took about twice as long but it was cheaper.  And apparently I wasn't the only one, Amtrak's ridership is at an all time high.  Now I just need to get a bike to ride to work.

$4.26 today, I was totally shocked. Bummer it's snowing already else I'd be back to driving like a maniac like I did before the gas prices went crazy.

The one station near my office was 2.99, when I saw that I nearly lost control of my bowels out of shock for seeing it that low.  My dad called then to tell me that a few miles away at another station it was 2.89.  The one station near where I live was 2.99 and you can tell it was that low because all of the pumps were packed
