Ozzymandias speaks: This came across the AP wire, while I was at work.

Composer who penned 'Batman' theme has died

LOS ANGELES (AP) - For many people, the themes from the
"Batman" TV series or from "The Odd Couple" are ingrained in
their heads. The man who composed them has died.
Neal Hefti was 85. Early in his career he was a Big Band
trumpeter and arranger. Later, Hefti composed 'Batman," which
became a Top 40 hit and won a Grammy Award in 1966 for best
instrumental theme. He also did the music for "The Odd Couple,"
"Barefoot in the Park" and "Harlow," which featured the track
"Girl Talk."
Hefti's son says the "Batman" theme was his dad's most
difficult piece. It took at least a month to compose the driving
bass and the trumpet bursts.

Not to mention writing the lyrics.
