I recall seeing a US TV mini-series or film about a young boy who was found alone by a rugged, heavy set bearded man in a forest. They lived in a caravan trailer. The main story involved them being chased by the US army at one point engaging them in a highly destructive fistfight in a supermarket. I think the boy had telepathic ability and could also transform objects including sandwiches into a full-scale dinner at one point.

Thanks for your attention.

"The Aurora Encounter" has a little alien boy and Jack Elam (heavyset bearded man).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090675/

However, it is set in the late 1800s.

Good response Akira but this is sadly not the right movie. The film in question was definitely set in the 1970's or '80's with cars, planes and soldiers in modernish type uniforms. Thanks for your attention anyway.

Sorry Circus but it wasn't an episode of an anthology series. It seemed to be either a two part miniseries or a duo of tv movies. Thanks anyway, good thinking.

"The Earthling" with William Holden, perhaps, JJ?

I'm sorry to say that "The Earthling" isn't the movie in question either! It doesn't seem to have any 'hard' sci-fi elements in it's plot. Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

I reckon that you're correct! Too many details tally for this not to be the film that I remembered. Thanks for your attention!

Ah, this one can definitely get moved! Original Poster agrees that the film is SHERIFF & THE SATELLITE KID starring the inimitable Bud Spencer... and I agree, too! Fun pair of movies.
