18.) Spiderman

I really think he shows the human side of comic book heroes to a tee.  Here is a guy with amazing power fighting for the right things in the world.  But in his "real" life he has to make rent, battle colds and deal with relationships both romantic and otherwise.

19.) The Joker

One of the best written comic characters in history.  Batman's arch-enemy and has been included in nearly every incarnation of the Bat.  Notably played at various times by Mark Hamill, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Cesar Romero, he's probably the most well known and most sociopathic villain in comic history, depending on the timeframe.

20.) Thor

He is full of himself, knows he's bad ass and isn't afraid to talk about it as he beats the ever living crap out of his adversaries.

22. Lex Luthor. I couldn't add Superman without adding Luthor. Whether a mad scientist, career criminal or corrupt billionaire, this guy has managed to be Superman's greatest adversary with no superpowers whatsoever. Has no qualms about pitting his intellect against the Man of Steel's many powers. That takes a serious set of cajones.

23) Doctor Doom

The most famous enemy of the Fantastic Four and another perfect example of a villain being far cooler than the heroes.

24.) Raphael from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Angry, sarcastic, and full of emotion.  I can't say he's the 'heart' of the team, but the comic books wouldn't be the same without him.

Highly intelligent and a man with a fine old mutant plan, he makes for a great and powerful villain.
