Basically all that I remember is that these people become blood brothers (or so I think) and they have what appeared to be some sort of proton pack/specter capturing equipment. At one point in the movie this equipment stops working so one of the characters had what appeared to be an unbent paperclip that they had dipped into the blood and is passing it in front of the muzzle of this weapon. The other part that I remember is that either a severed head, or a stomach area on someone turns into like a spider. This part took place in what appeared to be a library or somewhere with relatively high shelves. I cannot remember what exactly turned into the spider as it was so long ago.
This sounds suspiciously like a scene from John Carpenter's
The Thing (1982).
In this scene, MacReady (
Kurt Russell) has everyone tied up in one room because no one knows who's really human and who's an alien. He takes blood samples from everyone (by cutting their hands with a knife, I think) and dips a heated piece of wire into the blood to test it. The wire is heated by the flamethrowers that he and another character are wearing.
Once the alien is revealed, it tries to escape by detaching its head from its body. The head then grows spider-like legs and tries to escape.
