You like hard SFRPGs and 2300?

Damn I almost wsh I hadn't just booed ER for excessive posting to raise her post count. I'll karma you when i can.

BTW, how did you like the Kafers? I thought they were a very believable alien species.

We started playing that campaign many, many years ago and got to the point where we raised our own merc company to fight the Kafers. We had the start of the Kafer war, but never managed to get the later books. Luckily we had a GM who was good enough to work on the background he had and come up with his own story. My character ended up captured and being forced into fighting as a gladiator on one of the Kafer worlds. Since he was the group melee specialist he was pretty good at it. He never did get rescued, so I guess he'd still be there.

I enjoyed the very in-depth background to 2300AD. Each of the races seemed to be fairly well thought out and have their own motivations (especially the Pentapods). I liked the Kafers, and that most of their technology was built by a species they'd enslaved rather than having a race which is incredibly dim-witted until their adrenaline kicks in and suddenly they become combat veterans.

I didn't like France being the dominant world power though lol.

As for liking hard sci-fi, well it kinda depends on the system. I'll play almost any game if it is well done. Hell, one of these days I am going to run a game of 'Ug! The Prehistoric RPG'. That's a game where the players are limited to (let's see if I remember correctly) 16 words and you have to deal with the world using only those words (a T-Rex, for example, was a Big Smelly Bang Bang), and I also enjoy the Battle Cattle game (let loose the cows of war!). I think the worst systems I've come across was either Mage or Immortals, both of which had great backgrounds but weak execution.

I recently re-read Ron Chernow's biography of Alexander Hamilton; it is remarkably well-done and carries you straight into the events of the American Revolution and the tumultuous political battles of the earliest days of our Republic.  This was partly re-reading a well done book for the fun of it and partly as research for my next novel, but it was a pleasure either way. 5/5 - biographies don't get much better!

I just finished MANHUNT: THE 12 DAY SEARCH FOR LINCOLN'S KILLER, a gripping, blow-by-blow account of the assassination and its aftermath, and Booth's desperate flight southward, seeking refuge in the old Confederacy.  One of the best-written historical works I have read in a while.

Ye-es!
Artemis Fowl an 8 book series by Irish writer Eoin Colfer, featuring an Irish criminal mastermind, who is only a pre-teen, when the series start. Though, he does age into a teenager, as the series progresses.

bk.1. Artemis Fowl -- bk. 2. Artemis Fowl : the Arctic Incident -- bk.3. Artemis Fowl : the Eternity Code -- bk.4. Artemis Fowl : the Opal Deception -- bk 5. Artemis Fowl : the Lost Colony -- bk.6. Artemis Fowl : the Time Paradox -- bk.7. Artemis Fowl : the Atlantis Complex -- bk.8. Artemis Fowl : tje Last Guardian.

I am reading them in order, so, I have read only bk.1. to bk.6. so far, and the 1st chapter of bk.7. And what intrigues me so far, is the variety of villains, including himself, that Artemis comes across in his adventures. So far, there have been . . .

bk.1. Irish. Artemis himself, though he motes from straight villain to anti-hero, as the series progresses. bk.2. Russians -- bk.3. an American and a Kiwi -- bk.4. an Italian or, I should say a Sicilian -- bk.5. a Frenchman, a Spaniard, and a Chinese-American -- bk.6. a German and a Polish-American. Though, the last is just a guess.

Though, some of these are more aware of their villainy than others, and some are more villainous than others.

And that is just the Upper Element of the Earth, and, on the Lower Element, we have . . .
Trolls -- Sprities -- Pixies -- Goblins -- Elves -- Dwarves -- Demons -- Centaurs. All of whom are heroes or anti-heroes have tangled with, except the centaurs, who are probably the most honesxt of those mentioned.

And the story of the Fowls does not end with bk.8, as in 2020 we take up with Artemis' younger twin brothers Myles and Beckett in The Fowl Twins.,

Next time: the film, coming to a cinema near you soon.
