Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky.

A post-apocalyptic novel where the people of Moscow retreat into the metro after the nuclear holocaust, forming different societies at different metro staions. It has a somewhat antique touch to it, but is different enough to the classics to be interesting.

Had this one sitting on my to read shelf for a couple of years now. One of these days I'll get around to it.

A follow-up post to my previous post.

Artemis Fowl : the Movie
U.S. release date August 9, 2019. With . . .

Ferdia Shaw as Artemis
I feel sorry for the casting director, who had to interview over 1200 Irish boys, 9 to 13, ere they decided on Shaw. Who knew there were that many young actors in Ireland.

Nonso Anozie
Something different from the book, as Anozie is black, but, not as different as the next change, as Butler is also a racial minority in the book, but there he is an Eurasian.

Judi Dench as Root
Whereas, Root is a male elf in the book. A part originally written for Robert DeNiro, who is now only serving as producer, as is the director Kenneth Branagh. Harvey Weinstein was also suppose to produce, but when he ran into both financial and personal legal problems, he was dropped from the film.

Based on the 8 book series, utilizing the 1st 2  books in the series, Artemis Fowl and Artemis Fowl : the Arctic Incident, by Eoin Colfer. At that rate, if this is a success, we should get 3 more films over the next three years.

Actually, when the 1st book in the series was published in 2001, it was suppose to be a film. It only took them 17 to 18 years to make it.

And then when this series ends, we have Eoin Colfer's next series The Fowl Twins or Artemis' younger brothers Myles and Beckett out in 2020. So, who knows when the films will end.

Next time: 6 of 1 or 6 mysteries + 1 non-mystery

ALEXANDER HAMILTON'S REVOLUTION: HIS VITAL ROLE AS WASHINGTON'S CHIEF OF STAFF by Philip Tucker

A fascinating look at Hamilton's service in the American Revolution and how it shaped both his own political views and his relationship with George Washington.  Full of fascinating details and excellent analysis of how Hamilton essentially created the "Chief of Staff" position in practice, this is a great addition to anyone's library of the Revolution, or American history in general.

I just finished reading THE RISE AND FALL OF THE THIRD REICH by William Shirer. Originally published in 1961, it is an exhaustive account of Hitler's life and rise to power, the bizarre collection of psychopaths who filled the top ranks of the Nazi Party, and of the twelve chaotic years from the Reichstag fire until Hitler's suicide in the bunker below the Reich Chancellory in 1945. Shirer was in Berlin for much of the 1930's and was an eyewitness to many of the events he chronicled, and his work made heavy use of captured Nazi documents.

This is a massive book - it took me all of five months to finish it - but I think it should be required reading for every American. As the living memories of World War Two are winked out by time, the next generation needs to be reminded of the high cost of weaponized hatred and racism. Simply put, we cannot afford to repeat those costly lessons of the 1930's and 40's.

If you want a unique perspective on the third reich, you might want to read "A child of hitler" be Alfonse Heck.  It's the third reich as seen from a child who was like 3-4 when hitler too power and grew up under it, and went thru ww2 as a geman child. It has some hard scenes to read and shows that german children were victims too even if they didn't know it at the time.
