latest 1990
published 1991

Ye-es!
Robert McParland's
American
A Century of America's Favorite books
6 more non-fiction

Top 10
From 1899 to 2018
Both fiction and non-fiction

Not all bestsellers are created equal. Some are of a higher quality than others, but, what they are, even if not taking place in the U.S. nor in the present time that they were published, they are a product of that time and this place.

Of all the best sellers listed, he has read no more than 3 dozen of them. Yet, he has lived over half the time covered in the book, thus, the book is like having one's own time machine to the past. Surprisingly, not unpleasant, but a bit odd.

Some 250 of them were made into a theatrical film or a best seller was made from a film. Of that number, if I have not read the book, I have seen the film 47% of the time and liked 76% of the films I saw. Both numbers being acceptable.

I don't know what they are basing films on now, but, there does seem to be a decline in basing a film on best sellers.

We also know that a "good" book can make a "bad" film, but, can a "bad" book make a "good film?" That is another question for which I have no answer.

6 of 1 in various formats

the graphic version of . . .
Sax Rohmer's Dope
which was 1st published in 1919

If his name sounds a bit familiar, then think Dr. Fu Manchu

Steven Saylor
American
The Throne of Caesar
16th in the Roma Sub Rosa series + 4 more fiction
Hero: Roman
Place: Rome (Italy)
Time: 1st century B.C.
And the best book, either fiction or non-fiction, I have seen yet on Julius Caesar.

Jean Luc Picard
The Autobiography of Jean Luc Picard :
the story of one of Star Fleet's most important captains
edited by David A. Goodman
Hero: French
Place: the galaxy
Time: 24th century
The library where I go identifies books 2 ways: by the birth year of the author and by the year that the book is published. Thus, here we have a book published--2018--with a date of birth--almost 300 years later--2305. Maybe there is such a thing as time travel.

Tori Telfer
1st book
Lady Killers :
deadly women throughout history

Candice Fox

Crimson Lake
6 more fiction
Hero: Aussie
Place: Australia
Time: Present

graphic novel
Penny Dreadful :

I can promise you it lists many movies I could have died without seeing. And it shamefully skips over at least one movie everyone should see before they die---PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE.

Ye-es!
But, 1st a special report.

Mark Pinsky's
The Gospel According to Disney :
Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

There is also . . .
The Gospel According to . . .
Dr. Seuss -- Harry Potter -- Peanuts -- Pixar -- Scrooge -- Sesame Street -- the Simpsons -- Tolkien -- and Winnie the Pooh.

Thus proving, at least to me, that while many of us may not be religious, most of us operate under some sort of moral code.

A special report.

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet
and Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

300 years between the two, but, great minds still think alive, or 10 similiarities.

01. Both are part of the Magna Classic series.
02. Both feature a 14-year-old hero or heroine.
03. Both feature a dramatic feud.
04. Both are a product of their time and place.
05. But, both feature a story that occurs in an earlier time.
06. Both feature humorous moments.
07. In both, the humor is generated by a servant or a slave.
08. Both writers have an outstanding understanding of the human condition.
09. Both works are often misunderstood by modern audiences.
10. Both works have been often adapted into a film.
