NEED HELP with finding a *RAT* MOVIE lates 80's or so

All I can remeber in a man getting fed up with this giant rat terrorizing him in his home. He is sitting in his stairwell, dressed in piece-meal body armor composed of football pads and what have you. He has a bat or hockey stick as a weapon. I'm a huge animal based horror fan. I loved "Willard". If anyone can help please do so. Also send a PM if you have any good ideas on movies you may think I would like dealing with animals.
