So, a guy and his wife die in a car crash or something. The guy goes to heaven, but his wife goes to hell. Then this guy goes to hell to find his wife and he finds her, but she cannot leave. As far as I remember, this movie was pretty surrealistic. Oh, and the main guy is a painter.

The movie may or may not have Robin Williams in it.

Please, help!

Circus is correct, that's WHAT DREAMS MAY COME. The whole movie was made to look like a painting.
