I don't know what is happening to the Star Trek originals, but www.imdb.com just reported that Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away.  Bluesad

Yes, the first lady of Star Trek is gone.  She was the first officer, Number One, in the original pilot (The Cage), but NBC thought folks wouldn't believe a woman in that role.

Gene snuck her back in with a dye-job as the Spock crazy Nurse Chapel.

In TNG she was the man crazy Mrs. Troi, mother of the ship's counselor. She also appeared as Mrs. Troi on DS9, the first woman to break through Odo's shell. I just know she had a ball wearing all those sexy outfits they put her in.

She also was the computer voice on all the series and in the movies.

I never realized she was the First Officer in the pilot.  Interesting.

She was actually a very good actress with great screen presence.  It takes a lot to steal a scene from Patrick Stewart, and she did it.

I heard that the new Star Trek film is basically finished already.  That means it is likely she already recorded the computer voice parts for it.  So it's likely we'll hear that perfect voice in a Star Trek film one last time.

She's appeared in most of Roddenberry's productions, including Genesis II and his Tekwar series IIRC.
