I've seen a movie on VHS as a boy in the late '80s.

I remember that a young boy raised a shark as a pet from an egg. The boy's sensai's soul might have gone into the shark.

The movie was a lot like Karate Kid. I also remember that most fight scenes where in houses built ontop of water. So when the hero whistled the shark would pop in to help him.

What was the title to this film. I've told my friends about it recently and they won't believe me. :-)
