Antigone (1962)-  Unfortuntely for Greece,  the classic  dramas of Sophacles didn't catch on the way kung fu did, thus their expertise in this area did not reap the rewards that the shaolin martial arts did for hong kong.

Antigone wants to bury her brother who died in battle, the king,  for reasons of ego, does not.  He feels that he is right and that because he thinks something that makes it so.  Antigone's position is that the gods know what's right or wrong and what they say is easy enough to understand so the king would do well to listen.   He doesn't, that's why these are called "tragedies" not feel good warm-edies.  all the pomp and circumstance about society and the state and the big deal over burying someone will likely seem foreign to people in the 20th century but there are parellels to today: nixon, bush etc though the issues may be a little different

The whole movie kind of looks like an episode of the twilight zone, like the one where the guy goes to the castle and lets out satan.  I found myself unusually relaxed watching it.  in greek with subtitles on the orignal print rather than your dvd so they aren't the greatest.

"the law's the law, you ritually bury your brother you get sealed in this particular cave"
