80's 90's movie

Can anyone tell me the name of this movie. It's about a guy with an alien suit on that give's him powers, the only thing i remember is the start were a scientist is being chased by some punks and when they catch him he turn into some sort of monster, but so do they and kill him. I know its not much but's its all i remember THANKS.

And once you track it down, get the original PG-13 cut if possible. The director's cut is a piece of crap as it cuts out two of the gorier moments in the film and adds annoying "comic book" transitions in between scenes during the first half of the movie.
