College is never a waste of money (or perhaps time); if you learned something from your classes then you evolved into a better human being.

I have to disagree there, I've known people that have learned a little, but nothing that even comes close to justifying the amount of money they spent, thus that money was wasted. I don't agree that just knowing something today that you didn't yesterday necessisarily makes you a BETTER person, it can, and often does, but it's not a given. I know at least one person that has been "educated into an a***ole" by college, that person is NOT a better person than they were. The guy made $15.00 an hour and was happy before college, and now makes ~$10.00 an hour and is miserable, he makes less because "with his education, he's holding out for a management position". He'll never get one because he lacks actual job experience, and he arrogantly looks down his nose at pretty much everybody, who is going to hire HIM as a manager?
Funny that philosophy degrees are mentioned, when I worked in the shipyard, we had a guy with a degree in philosophy as a laborer. All that education and he worked cleaning crap-tanks amongst other things, for ~$10.00/hr. His 'philosophy' was the fact he was making $10.00/hr while us less-educated people were making closing in on twice that was proof thet system was screwed. Basically his education led him to believe he has cause to be miserable. .. money well spent there.

I see what you're saying and largely agree, , except for the word "Never" as it is used here. . .

Money wasted on booze and women

That phrase is a paradox to me... I can't wrap my mind around the concept.  Are you saying there's a way to get booze and women that doesn't require money? Question

I wish I could recoup the money I spent on a lot of games and toys I got for my kid. All most of these items do is collect dust since she prefer to play video games. Even subscriptions to some of those are a waste. I got my daughter a subscription to some Barbie game that she begged for and a week later she stopped playing it.

Yeah this is the 21st century it's high time they do the paying. I use to go to bars and wait by the waitress station and when the bar tender would set up the drinks I'd grab one or two or three when they weren't looking. so yeah I guess there is a way to get when they aren't looking ... just depends on the bar set up.
Of course this was over 20 years ago before there was cameras everywhere (Hello George Orwell).

Ah, I did that bar trick too once, got kicked out (and later got sick from mixing all kinds of crazy drinks).

Many bars will give you a free drink on your birthday. When I was in the Army a guy in my unit was friends with someone that made the ID cards: He got his friend to make him 365 IDs cards, one with a different day of the year as his birthday. He'd grab whichever showed that day as his birthday and go drinking for free. It was pretty cool, and in Anchorage there were so many bars they never caught on.

Of course there's MEGA trouble to be had for possessing a false military ID, but, free drinks, what more can I say?

Free drinks - they justify everything.  Cheers

I bought the vinyl of the soundtrack to Radioactive Dreams for a ridiculous amount of money.  If you have seen what it sells for on eBay lately, just rest assured I spent more than twice as much...

doggett, are you perhaps South African or familiar with the Afrikaans language? I'm asking because that word is a very recognizable SA slang word for when something is really, really terrible.  TeddyR

Nope.

Last year I bought a used Sig 9mm handgun. Since I was a teenager i have loved the Sigs and they are just too pricey to buy brand new. I saw one that was used at a decent price and had a little wear on the bluing. I bought it....what a waste. It was a bulky POS and just wasn't what I had envisioned over all the years. I traded it at a loss for something else that i am much happier with.

I spent alot of money on eBay on a pair of underwear that Ernest Borgnine supposedly wore while filming The Vikings. But I dunno, I just don't see Ernie wearing a small women's leopard print thong. Maybe Tony Curtis sure, but Ernie....

Alright, seriously I've blown way to much money on gym memberships that I only used a few times. Maybe at least $1000. You always tell yourself that if you spend the money that will motivate you to go, but that doesn't really happen. Now I just chug around the neighborhood and do push-ups.
