For anyone who hasn't heard, the electronics chain is officially going out of business and liquidation their remaining 500+ stores starting today. I'm considering finally picking up an HD TV, but that's usually the kind of thing people like to be able to have a valid warranty on... oh well, if nothing else it should be a good day for picking up games and DVDs! Good luck to anyone else looking for good deals! Cheers

Hey Anubis - at CC's website, they have a big notice on the front page about the closing.  I noticed this:

"Are Circuit City's extended warranties affected by the liquidation?
No.  Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans® (extended warranties) have been backed by third-party independent companies for more than 15 years and as a result, are not impacted by Circuit City's closing."

So the HD TV may not be a bad idea, after all.

Ah, much thanks for pointing that out good Reverend! The story I read on Yahoo last night said that they weren't sure if the warranties would be honored or not and no one from Circuit City was returning their emails at the time of the posting. I tried to snag up some deals this morning, but all our local store was selling were the Guitar Hero and Rock Band accessories. I picked up a Wii guitar for $20, but the real close out stuff isn't starting until Tuesday, at least around here. As such, you know where I'll be come 10sm Tuesday...  Wink

The sale isn't too great right now.  20% off DVDs, 10% off a bunch of other stuff.  But, of course, their prices were already normally way over the online prices.  I'd say wait a month.

I was tempted to go in and have a look, but I really don't need more junk.

Either way, I'm not sad to see Circuit City bite the big one.  Every time I've gone to the one out here, the service was crap, the selection was crap, and it still irritates me what they did to their entire company staff by firing all the ones with experience so they could "rehire" them for a cheaper price.  I'm not surprised to see them go out of business.
