I feel like I'm almost doing John Carpenter a disservice, being so analytical of his 1980 classic The Fog as I am, but hey: any artist has to expect the critics to come along and make their observations.

I agree... The Fog was missing something.  For me, it just wasn't very scary.  That's a shame too because it was very well made, and had some nice music.  I think of it as an entertaining ghost story rather than a thrilling scare-fest.
