A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: January 28, 2009, 12:25:20 AM »

Just finished off the second season of this incredible historical drama. What a piece of work!!!  The episode where Thomas More died brought me to tears, and the death of Anne Boleyn was staged with incredible poignancy and tastefulness.  John Rhys-Meyers doesn't physically resemble Henry VIII that much, but he definitely has the character down.  And Peter O'Toole as Pope Paul VI is alternately charming and villainous.  I love good historical drama, and after two seasons I think I have to say that THE TUDORS has slightly edged out ROME as my favorite.

Does anyone know if they are going to do a third season?

I can't wait to see John Rhys Meyers get FAT!!!!

Yes, there will be a third season, which will begin airing in April. I'm really looking forward to it.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Just finished off the second season of this incredible historical drama. What a piece of work!!!

That's a joke!!!!

The Tudors is historically inaccurate.

Where's a quote I found of one of the producers :

"An exact portrayal of Henry is not a factor that we think is important."

Huh!?

Why?!?!

John Adams was as accurate as they could be in a television series, why not Tudors ?

Here's a spokeswoman :

"The Tudors is not a drama-documentary, which has always been made clear, but a highly authored and entertaining interpretation of events in a period in history."

Ah, that basically means that they pretty much make it up to be cool.

True, it contains some inaccuracies, but it sticks to the heart of the actual events, and at the critical moments, it even reproduces the authentic dialogue - as recorded by contemporaries - word for word.  As with any historical drama, it also fills in tons of missing pieces with sheer conjecture and character development.  It is much more accurate than ROME, but of course, the events covered in ROME are not nearly as well documented, so there was a lot more room for dramatic license.
John Rhys Meyers is an incredible actor, and even though he looks nothing like King Henry, I still think he gives a very interesting, entertaining, and reasonably authentic portrayal of the character.  I think Henry himself would greatly enjoy this show, while Julius Caesar would, I think, be somewhat offended by the way he was portrayed in ROME.

I'll still take it over THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL any day.

Yeah, anyone would.

Throughout year 8 we had history lessons about Henry the 8th. I'm sick of him. Why couldn't get taught Darwin ?

WHAT?! Thomas More dies? And so does Anne Boleyn! How about a spoiler warning there, indy?!!!!  Wink

Before I saw season one I was slanted against this show and was expecting to revile it but instead I was impressed and forgave its inaccuracies and flaws. Now I'm looking forward to finally seeing season two, got my copy today, and if it's coming that soon, can't wait for season three.
