I don't know that there are many people who enjoy westerns less than I do.  i don't know why, I guess it just doesn't seem like much fun roughing it all the time.  My dad loves them, he reads Louis lamour books by the dozen.  but I'm always trying to expand my horizons and I have to say i liked this movie alot.  it 's a western but it is clearly choreagraphed to draw cheers and boos like a blaxploitation movie of the same era.  In fact, it's expertly crafted to appeal to both types of audiences right down to the wakka wakka guitars with those "doing doing doing" western sounding whatever they are things.  stars Sidney Poitier and Harry belafonte are fantastic and Cameron Mitchell is great as always as the ultra horrible racist villian he plays so well and so often.

I enjoyed this film when I saw it several years ago. It has to one of the VERY few westerns where a warparty of Indians actually rides to the rescue of a wagon train.

There are few things more beautiful than a sporting montage with a soft-rock soundtrack

Haven't seen this one in quite while.  I did catch  "Take a Hard Ride" with Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, and Lee Van Cleef a couple of weeks ago.  I guess you could call the blaxplotation Westerns.
