A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: February 03, 2009, 07:36:50 AM »

I rented this video over the weekend and watched it last night - it was a one of the best horror movies I have seen in quite a while.

Kiefer Sutherland plays Ben Carson, a New York cop under suspension after a shooting.  He gets a job as a night security guard at a huge New York department store, which burned out in a disastrous fire a few years before.  The place is full of mirrors, and as he makes his nightly rounds, the mirrors begin to reflect more than just his image . . .

Full of "jump" moments and some genuinely creepy visual effects, with a solid performance by Sutherland and a strong supporting cast, this was a great movie that had me regarding my mirrors with a little apprehension as I walked by them.

I highly recommend it.

The wife and I mostly enjoyed this, and thought it very well made, but neither of us liked the ending -- No, no spoilers from me, but we definitely thought the ending dragged the film down, making it more of a Twilight Zone episode or a Bradbury short story, not that those are bad things at all, just that it became less of a "movie" to us at that point & more of a Saki tale.

I thought the movie was pretty OK (Nice effects, decent plot), didn't scream "remake of Asian movie", which made the fact pleasantly less obvious. I myself actually thought the ending was probably one of the best parts, screams for an "action-sequel" where the tables are turned. XD

the whole jaw ripping/tearing scene was paricularly gruesome and effective. But the rest of the film I found was just going through the paces.  Not really that scary IMO.

I had been reading bad reviews, and I was happy to see it was a very decent movie. Even a very good one at certain spots. The only thing I disliked was the "big climax", which I found rather excessive. Still, the premise is intriguing, Kiefer Sutherland does a very fine job (I hope he gets to do more movies after "24" ends its run) and director Alexandre Aja's visuals are very slick.

You may end up disappointed if you expect something in the vein of the earlier Aja films, because it's clearly not, but otherwise I'd recommend it to any horror fans out there.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

It Was A Lot Of Fun Following The Story And The Mystery , It Was A Great Movie , But It Could Have Done Without The Extra Scare At The End

I want to see this but my wife gets freaked out too easy. She told me one time when I went to order it from my on demand player that if we watched it, she feared she would freak out and have me remove all the mirrors from our house. So I gotta wait until it comes on HBO, Starz or one of those networks to see it when she's out of the house.

I have to disagree with you. Personally, i though that aside from the jaw ripping that this wasnt a very good movie. Maybe i am alone on this thought but maybe not.
