I was both disappointed and happy throughtout this entire broadcast.  There were so many movies that got the right award and got the awards they didn't deserve.  The biggest upset for me was that Best Makeup went to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button instead of Hellboy 2.  This isn't coming from a fan of the movie or anything, it's just that I know a good makeup job when I see one and Hellboy 2 had that one so in the bag.  Other upsets for me was that Benjamin Button also took Visual Effects.  While they are good, I just don't see how they compare to a powerhouse film of amazing effects like Wanted, Iron Man, or The Dark Knight.

The biggest shocker for me was that Sean Penn took Best Actor for Milk.  While I assume Brad Pitt was going to win, this one came out of nowhere.  I'm glad he won.

No shocker was that Wall-E won Best Animated Movie (Was there really anyone else that could win?), Kate won Best Actress (She had the longest and most annoying speech yet), and that Heath Ledger took Best Supporting Actor (Sadly, people will still believe he only won because he died.  Stupid idiots).

The music catergories were awesome and pretty much everyone was good, so I had no problems with Slumdog taking both Original Song and Original Score.  I wished Wall-E won more than one award and The Dark Knight won more than 2.

Finally, the biggest award of the night went to Slumdog Millionare for Best Picture, beating Frost/Nixon, Milk, TCCOBB, and The Reader (I still don't believe the movie deserved to be nominated for Best Picture, when other films like Changeling, The Dark Knight, The Wrestler, Wall-E, and Grand Tarino deserved it far more).

So, what is your opinion of awards.  Did you like who one, do you hate who won, or do you have mixed feelings like me.

"Oh Mickey,
what a pity"

I wanted Mickey Rourke for best actor damn it! But, I like Sean Penn though, so fair play to him.

Is there anyone else out there who thinks Slumdog Millionaire is overrated? Or is it just me?  Question

I only cared that Kate Winslet won. I've loved her since I heard her say "The World's Greatest Tenor, Mario Lanza". One of the most respected yet under-rated actresses.

I think the more appropriate question is: "Is there anyone out there who has actually seen Slumdog Millionaire?"   TongueOut

The Oscars are a bunch of hog wash to me.  In a just world, The Dark Knight, Iron Man and Wall-E would have been nominated for Best Picture.

I was hoping though that Mickey Rourke would win Best Actor however.

Apparently, the person who wrote the book on which Slumdog is based is the Indian High Commissioner to South Africa. Question

I wanted Heath Ledger to win and he did ~ I also would have liked Mickey Rourke to win for Best Actor and Martin McDonagh for In Bruges.

A group of mostly anonymous people vote for what movies they like.  I can't imagine why this should interest me, or anyone, in the slightest.  I can look at user ratings at the IMDb, I can read user reviews there or at Amazon, I can read critics' opinions on dozens and dozens of websites, or look at the critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes.  Yet some group of somebodies gives their opinion, and it's a big deal.

Totally incomprehensible.

Heavenly Creatures is one of Peter Jackson's finest films, and Winslet is awesome in it.
